Each year, we provide financial support to Yamhill County students pursuing studies in the creative arts—including visual art, music, writing, theater, and more. These scholarships are designed to encourage artistic growth, expand educational opportunities, and help young creatives take the next step in their journey.
The AAYC Scholarship Program is named in honor of Margaret “Marg” Johansen, a celebrated textile artist, educator, and arts advocate whose impact continues to shape Yamhill County's creative landscape. Over her 50-year career, Marg produced more than 230 original tapestries, earning national and international recognition for her technical mastery and expressive style.
Marg’s dedication to community and arts education extended beyond her studio. In her later years, she was actively involved with the Arts Alliance of Yamhill County, supporting its mission to foster creativity and cultural engagement.
Her work lives on not only in the students this scholarship supports but also in the places where her art has been generously donated. You can view her pieces at the McMinnville Public Library, Linfield University, and Providence Hospital, among others—each location carrying a piece of her woven legacy.
This scholarship honors Marg’s lifelong commitment to the arts and helps carry forward her belief in nurturing the next generation of creators.
